A 21-year-old San Jose woman was arrested and fired for allegedly dating a 15-year-old male student at San Jose High School, where she worked as the assistant badminton coach, police said.
Loc Nguyen was arrested at the campus Wednesday and taken to Santa Clara County Main Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of annoying or molesting a minor.
“As soon as we found out, we informed the San Jose Police Department and released her from employment,” said Stephen McMahon, the school district’s chief business officer. Nguyen had worked for the school for about three months, he added.
The case follows a series of arrests by San Jose police officers of high school educators or coaches suspected of having inappropriate sexual relationships with students.
On Tuesday, police arrested Douglas Le — a 25-year-old San Jose resident and a teacher at Gilroy High School — who allegedly posed as a girl online to elicit minors to send him “harmful matter,” police said.
Last month, police said an assistant track coach, 21-year-old Enoch Herbert Garcia of San Jose, had sex with two Mount Pleasant High School students, ages 14 and 17. That arrest came on the heels of another school in the district — James Lick High School — booting its interim assistant principal, 35-year-old Jose Gonzalez, for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
In February, San Jose police also nabbed a teacher, 29-year-old San Jose resident Zachary Drew, at Summit Tahoma Charter School for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student.
